NEWTON - This morning, Newton City Councilor-at-Large Jake Auchincloss announced his campaign for the Massachusetts’ Fourth Congressional Seat.

“As a Marine officer in Afghanistan and Panama, I was proud to lead Americans who put service before self,” said Auchincloss. “In my hometown’s City Hall, I’ve led from the front on transportation, housing and the environment, to create more equal opportunity for all. I’m running for Congress to lead from the front once more. The stage is bigger and the stakes are higher, but my commitment is the same: to our common values of service and opportunity. I’ll work to secure a Green New Deal that brings home funding for Massachusetts to reinvent its transportation system, to pass progressive gun-safety and immigration legislation, and to guarantee health care as a right for every American.”

Following his public announcement, Jake will launch his campaign by greeting voters at commuter transit hubs throughout the district, beginning with his home stop of Newtonville at 5:30 PM on Thursday evening. For more details contact press@jakeauchincloss.com

After graduating from the Newton Public Schools and Harvard College, Jake served as a captain in the United States Marines. He commanded infantry in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2012 and a reconnaissance unit in Panama in 2015.

After returning home, he was elected to the Newton City Council in 2015. After a grassroots campaign in which he and his team knocked on 15,000 doors, Jake has stayed closely engaged with his constituents through a popular newsletter and frequent office hours. He was re-elected in 2017 and appointed to a leadership position on transportation, where he has built a caucus around implementing tried-and-proven methods for reducing traffic and improving walkability.

Also in 2017, Jake was the first elected official to endorse Ruthanne Fuller for Mayor of Newton. She is now the first female mayor of Newton. Jake has been endorsed by Progressive Newton in his 2019 re-election effort for his forward-thinking positions on the environment, transportation, immigration, and early childhood education.

Jake has worked at a cybersecurity startup, acquired in 2018, and then as a manager at Liberty Mutual’s innovation lab. At Liberty Mutual, Jake helped orient the Fortune 100 company towards a greener, less congested transportation system.

Jake lives in Newton with his wife, Michelle and their Labrador Retriever. For more information about Jake and the issues he’ll fight for in Washington, visit JakeAuchincloss.com.
