MA-04 Democratic Women Speak Out Against False Attack By EMILY’s List Spokesperson

NEWTON – Today, State Representatives Pat Haddad and Carole Fiola spoke out in response to a false attack on MA-04 Congressional candidate Jake Auchincloss by EMILY’s List spokesperson Ben Ray. Ray’s original tweet reads: “IMPORTANT MASSACHUSETTS UPDATE: The only thing Democratic voters in MA-04 need to know is there are two candidates in the race, Jake Auchincloss and Alan Khazei, who cannot be trusted on healthcare, women’s rights, or our Democratic values.”

In response, Rep Pat Haddad, Speaker Pro Tempore of the Massachusetts House, highest ranking woman in the House, and lead sponsor of the Massachusetts ROE Act, stated: “Democratic women in the Massachusetts Fourth know better. Jake has made choice a priority in his platform. He’s committed to serving as a strong advocate for pro-choice policy, from expanding access to safe and legal abortion, to eliminating the Global Gag Rule, to codifying the ROE Act at the state and federal level. I’ve endorsed him because I know he’ll stand strong on these issues, and I’m disappointed to see this sort of misinformation from an EMILY’s List spokesperson.”

Rep Carole Fiola of Fall River, also an endorser of Jake’s campaign for Congress, chimed in, saying: “I’m surprised that a spokesperson from EMILY’s List would make such a claim. Jake is a fierce advocate for women’s rights. He believes that healthcare should be affordable and accessible to all. Jake will always fight for our Democratic values.”
